I love watching people open up gifts. The look of excitement that comes with it brings me so much happiness. Every Christmas, when I was younger, we'd get up at the crack of dawn to open presents and the most exciting part was watching my little sister Brooke open up hers. She would always get something really cool that and when she would open it she would get the cutest look on her face.
You may be wondering why I am even talking about any of this but it's because I saw this same look again this year. But this time it was from my Pit Bull. :)
She got this doggy couch!
And this toy that you can put water bottles in! She loves chewing on water bottles.
She was wagging her whole butt because she was so excited.
I won't lie to you. I pay no attention to politics because I simply don't care. I know I should...but I just don't. I had no problems with President Obama until today when I read about how he called up the Eagles' Head owner, Jeffrey Lurie, and congratulated him for giving Michael Vick a second chance in the NFL. Now, I don't know about you, but I kind of thought that being the President of the United States was a busy job, a job where perhaps, you didn't have the time to call up the owner of the Eagles' and thank them for giving some scum bag, dog killing, loser a second chance at making millions of dollars. But I guess I was wrong.

I'd like you to meet Brittany Carmona's Pit Bull Jericho!. He was randomly chosen to be the new face of Don't Be a Pit Bully! Thanks to EVERYONE for submitting pictures. If your Pittie didn't get chosen this time, don't worry! He/she may be next! Now, here is a little about Jericho from Brittany!
"He will be 7 months old January 2. His mom, dad, and past grandparents were all champions in UKC shows. I received him because the lady who owned the parents was going to keep him to show but when she get promoted at work, she had less time for a puppy. So I swooped in and adopted him. He's a character. Quite the airhead, he walks into walls and is scared of his own shadow. He is absolutely in love with his sister Tequila my chocolate pitbull. His favorite toys are anything with a squeaker. He will sit there and squeak it till there's none left! He is very loved at work which he comes with me everyday. He also is very well behaved and a lazy man. the only bad thing about this guy is his snoring. Which he sounds like a caveman lol. He is very excited to be on the banner."
Once again, thanks to everyone who participated! It was really difficult for me to choose and that's why I decided to do it randomly. I hope ALL of you readers had a great holiday season and enjoy the rest of 2010! :)
First of all, I just want to take the time to thank everyone who has read the blog over the past 5 months. When I started this blog I never imagined it would be read all over the U.S. and in 50 other countries in the world. I am honored and excited for it to become even MORE popular. I wish all of you a Merry Christmas.
Second of all, I am changing the banner on Christmas Day. If you want your Pit Bull to be considered please send a photo to email@example.com AND if you have no idea what I am talking about read this post.
Thirdly, don't forget about the Pitties in shelters this Christmas. If you can, go save one. I wish I could.
T'was the night before Christmas And the shelter is dark, The whole place is silent, Not even a bark. The dogs are all locked in their pens for the night, the staff has gone home and turned out the light. As I lay my head down on the cold concrete floor, I fondly recall my home from before. The family I loved, who loved me right back, we'd share everything -- from secret to snack. Things couldn't be better this time last year, but that has all changed and now I am here. I won't see the tree, the lights, or the snow, I'm scared and alone, my spirits are low. The others like me weren't put up for adoption, home for us isn't an option. We've been locked up in cells as if we were crooks, we don't deserve homes because of our looks. Diesel, or Bingo, or the young one named Percy, deserve to be loved but shown no mercy. While families celebrate holiday cheer, I know in my heart that my end is near. The vet will arrive, the lights will go on, by the time you awake, we all will be gone. A stranger will come and take me away, I'll never wake to see another day. As I close my eyes I'll shed you a tear, The fondest of memories I'll always keep near. The only thing I've ever asked of Santa Claus, is to stop all these unfair and ridiculous laws. You said without me, your life was not full, so why does it matter that I'm a "pit bull"? In my dream Santa shouts when he's finished his deed, "MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL...REGARDLESS OF BREED"!'
And lastly don't forget to enjoy your Pitties this Christmas season. Oh, and take pictures of them on Christmas morning and send them to me! :)
If you're anything like me you LOVE shopping. Maybe you aren't and that's fine too. I am hear to announce that one of my favorite stores Forever 21 has teamed up with the Humane Society to produce the greatest shirt EVER!
I think it is WONDERFUL that we have such a popular retail chain on our side. The shirt is only $14.80 and $1.00 goes to The Humane Society!
Lately I have been thinking about changing the banner of the blog. This is where YOU come into play. I have been using my Pit Bull, Addie, in my banners for as long as I've had the blog. As much as I don't want to believe it, there are other Pit Bulls in the world that are just as cute as Addie! ;) I would like to feature one of your Pit Bulls! If you are interested in your Pit Bull being the new face of Don't Be a Pit Bully you can send a picture of them to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or you can go to the Don't Be a Pit Bully Facebook page and upload a picture there. Just make sure you let me know you want it to be considered for the banner! Thanks, and I can't wait to see your Pit Bulls!
I'm sorry that you have such a negative view on Pit Bulls. You should meet one, I'll even let you meet mine. She is the nicest, sweetest dog I've ever known. My cocker spaniel is meaner than my Pit Bull. Hell, my CAT is meaner than my Pit Bull. I know you read all of these horror stories on the internet and hear about them on the news but if you did some more research you'd realize that Pit Bulls deal with a horrible media bias. When you are reading about a Pit Bull attacking keep in mind that another dog somewhere was attacking as well and it wasn't a Pit Bull. And no, you won't hear about it.
I am getting a little sad/frustrated with you saying that we should kill all Pit Bulls. I take it very personally because by saying that EVERY Pit Bull should be killed, you are saying mine should be. This is not acceptable to me. You don't know her. You don't know how extremely happy she makes me and other people. When she meets people she gets so excited that her whole body wiggles. I have taught her to kiss on-demand. She holds me down and licks my neck because she knows it tickles me and makes me laugh hysterically. She makes my life happy, so please don't say you want to kill her.
Some dogs attack and most of the time it can be prevented. Truth is, I think we should be worrying about other things. Like humans. Worldwide there is about 1 murder per minute. Not only is there murder, but rape, theft, and abuse. Humans are dangerous. Just because one person commits murder are you going to kill their whole family?
All I am saying is that you should go out and meet some Pit Bulls.I think that it would change your mind, I really do. You say we are in denial about Pit Bulls, the truth is it is you that is in denial. You that has the closed mind. All we want is for you to give them a CHANCE.
I never get everything I want for Christmas because I want just about everything. I have several different lists of things that I want. A list for music related items, a list for clothes, and this year a list of Pit Bull items that I want. Because this blog is about Pit Bulls I figured I would share my Pit Bull Christmas List. :)
I love this shirt and I want it. :)
It's Pink. It's 5 dollars. And it would look great on my non-existant car.
I would wear this sucker with pride around Chicago. You better believe it.
I haven't gotten the chance buy this book yet, let alone read it! Do you guys like it?
I want every Pit Bull to be adopted so that they don't have to live like this anymore.
Too many Pit Bulls die in shelters. Please, go save one's life if you can.
And lastly, I want BSL to pack up and never come back.
If you are ANYTHING like me you love the internet. I pretty much LOVE social networking sites. I admittedly have a Facebook, Twitter, Daily Booth and (obviously) a blogger account. Now I have found something that combines my love of social networking and Pit Bulls and it is called Pit Bull Positive.
In Pit Bull Positive's words Pit Bull Positive is a social network for owners, rescuers, advocates, and anyone who wishes to see the breed succeed. Sounds like you, right? There are over 1000 people on this network that you can add as friends, chat with, and share pictures and videos with. There are forums that range from fostering to training to health. You can also write blog entries, create a unique look for your page, make events, join groups and add application. In simple terms: Pit Bull Positive is freaking AWESOME.
So I ask you Pit Bull lovers, to join me at Pit Bull Positive and when you do, add me as a friend. http://pitbullpositive.ning.com/profile/YvonneDean
My honest apologies in not posting lately. I truly feel bad about it. It's a very busy time for me at school right now but luckily, I am ALMOST done. For those of you who don't already know, I am currently working on getting my masters degree in Chicago, IL. I play clarinet and that is what I am going to school for. Unfortunately, it does take up a ton of my time. If I am not in class, I am in rehearsals, or practicing as much as I can. Normally, I leave home around 10 a.m. and don't get back until after 10 p.m. Oh, the life of a musician. Anyways, I am sorry for neglecting the blog, hopefully this will not happen as often next semester although I am going to be even more busy than this semester :/
Now, because this is a blog about Pit Bulls and NOT me I thought I would add a picture at least!
Some people I know may think it's stupid to write a blog about Pit Bulls. They may think it's a waste of time or just think I am crazy. I do this because I love these dogs more than anything. Just seeing a Pit Bull makes me light up inside. Hearing people talk badly about them sends a rage through me. Reading about fighting dogs makes me cry. Stories about Pit Bulls being heroes make me proud. You could say that I am pretty darn passionate about these creatures. So, I have made a list of all the reasons I love Pit Bulls, specifically my Pit Bull, Addie. Enjoy.
1. Whenever I come home from being gone she is genuinely happy to see me. Even if it's only been 5 minutes.
2. She knows I am ticklish. If I am laying down she will pin my arms down and lick my neck/face and I can't help but laugh hysterically. She gets so much joy out of this. I honestly think she likes making me laugh.
3. She's funny. She has a great personality.
4. When my feet are cold she will sit on them.
5. She snores..LOUD. Just like me. :)
6. She's smart and she learns so quickly.
7. She watches TV with me.
8. She kisses on command. Make the kissy noise and you're sure to get frenched.
9. She loves everything. Every person, every animal, every thing. You can tell by how excited she gets.
10. When she gets really excited she wags her tail so hard that her body moves with it.
11. She's got a great Pittie smile.
12. She loves being held and loves cuddling. She is definitely a lap dog.
13. When she comes up to me and jumps up it means she wants to be held. She's 50 pounds but I still will pick her up and hold her. Just not as long as I used to. :)
14. She inspires me. As silly as it sounds, I want to be like her. Seeing the way she accepts every single person she meets with no judgment makes me want to be a better person. She's happy all the time and lets nothing get her down. She forgives the people who treat her like crap from time to time. She is always there when you're down.

Today I came across an article by KLTV 7 news in the East Texas area. The article was entitled "East Texas Man Dies of Heart Attack After Pit Bull attack. You can read it by clicking here.
I have found many articles by this news station to be biased and after reading this article I had enough so I sent in this letter.
To whom it may concern,
I am writing today because of the frustration I felt after reading the article "East Texas Man Dies of Heart Attack After Pit Bull Attack." My frustration was brought on by the title and the first sentence of this article. After reading the title I expected the story to go something like this: Man has heart attack after he is attacked by a Pit Bull. Turns out, this was not even close to what I would read.
Pit Bulls are under incredible scrutiny from the media. It is proven that there is a media bias against Pit Bulls and I am sad to report that this news station is involved in it. By making the title of the article "East Texas Man Dies of Heart Attack After Pit Bull Attack" all involved have blatantly used the Pit Bull name to bring in readers.
My complaints are as follows:
-The title of this article makes it seem as if the Pit Bull attacked this man when in reality the Pit Bulls were going after other dogs which in fact, happens every day with every single breed of dog.
-The first sentence of this article is, in my opinion, outrageous. “Another East Texas pit bull attack leaves one man dead...and sends one woman to the hospital.” To me, the writer of this article makes it seem like the Pit Bulls attacked and killed the man and attacked the woman. This was not the case at all. The woman was hurt trying to break up the fight, which is something that can be expected when breaking up any dogfight. The man, according to the article, was not attacked or bitten in any way. He simply died of a heart attack, which may have had nothing to do with the dogfight. He could have had bad health for all we know. It obvious that the writer of this article believed that the heart attack was brought upon by the fight. This could be very untrue.
- I know there is a brief statement about the second Pit Bull biting someone on-scene but because of the lack of information in the article we have no idea what the situation was. The first Pit Bull was shot to death, which may have caused the second Pit Bull to become very scared leading to a bite. We don’t know the situation, nor do we know whom it bit. This fact is not relevant with out more information.
As far as I am concerned, the news should be delivered without a biased opinion in all aspects; from politics, to sports, to Pit Bulls. I hope you will take my opinion seriously and take the appropriate actions to prevent this from happening again. Thank you for your time.
In other news: The Bears won against the Eagles and Michael Vick! Vick didn't perform so well today. Maybe he should be treated how his dogs were when they didn't perform well in the fighting ring. Just a thought.
And last but not least, I am VERY happy to report that senator Kevin Eltife in East Texas has expressed that he is not interested in a state-wide Pit Bull Ban. He is willing to work with Tyler attorney Cynthia Stevens Kent on controlling dogs at a city and county level. Hopefully these cities and counties will do the right thing and stay away from BSL.
I've only spent a couple of hours with her but I know she is going to be a great dog and a good ambassador to the Pit Bull Breed. She's playful, adora-bull, and SMART. She already knows how to sit and potty training is going decently well as far as I have heard!
I couldn't be happier to have another Pit Bull in my life. I am overjoyed! I hope to do an I'd Like You to Meet 2.0 when I get to know her a little more. I just HAD to blog about her and show her off!
The video below is a documentary on dog fighting and American Pit Bull Terriers. The video also focuses on bans, and the history of Pit Bulls. Some of it is incredibly difficult to watch. It made me cry so hard that I nearly threw up. Although it is difficult to view, I think everyone should see it. Not just APBT owners but EVERYONE. Please share it.
Today I was doing some internet stalking about the Texas Pit Bull Ban, (what's new?) and came across a commenter who said Pit Bulls are for drug dealers and gang-bangers. Well commenter, I am proud to say that I own a Pit Bull and do not fall under either of those categories. I have never dealt drugs and surprisingly enough have never participated in a gang-bang. Shocking, I know. In fact, I am no where CLOSE to that. Actually, I am a 22 year old masters student studying music. I have been playing clarinet for 11 years and plan to play the rest of my life. I have never even tried drugs, nor do I ever intend to. I also own a Cocker Spaniel and a Maine Coon cat. What does that label me as? A crack addict and a porn star?
Do not label the Pit Bull owning population as drug dealers and gang-bangers. Most of us are normal, respectable members of society. Thanks.
The past couple of days I have had my eyes glued to the internet due to this possible Texas Pit Bull ban. I have been searching Google once every two hours to see if there is any new info. During my searches I find very little about Texas, and a lot about Pit Bull attacks. There is page after page after page of Pit Bull attacks, many of them covering the same attack. This changed my interest to the media bias against Pit Bulls. It has been proven that media reports much more about Pit Bull attacks than other dogs. The National Canine Research Council (NCRC) has presented more than once proofs of this media bias. Below is one of their studies.
The NCRC did a quantitative study of dog-bite reportage over a 4 day period in 2007.
August 18, 2007: 70 yr. old man attacked by Labrador Retriever. He was sent to the hospital in critical condition. The dog was shot by the police after it charged them. There was one article posted in the local paper.
August 19, 2007: 16 mo. old child received fatal head and neck injuries after being attacked by a mixed-breed dog. This attack was reported twice in the local newspaper.
August 20, 2007: Six yr. old boy hospitalized after having his ear torn off and a severe bite to the head by a mixed-breed dog. Reported in one article in the local newspaper.
August 21, 2007: A 59 yr. old woman was attacked in her home by two Pit Bulls. She was hospitalized with sever but not fatal injuries. This attack was reported in over 230 articles in national and international newspapers, as well as major television news networks including CNN, MSNBC, and FOX.
The NCRC also did this study in 2006. You can view it here.
It is also a fact that any dog that even minutely resembles a Pit Bull will be labeled a Pit Bull. I believe I have posted this at an earlier point but I am going to post it again. This link includes 20 different pictures of 20 different dogs. Only one is an American Pit Bull Terrier. Can you find the APBT? Unfortunately, if ANY of those dogs pictured attacked some one, I guarantee they would be labeled as a Pit Bull even though 19 of them aren't.
The fact of the matter is the media is a bunch of bullies. I have one thing to say to them. "Hey Media, DON'T BE A PIT BULLY."
Also if you live in Texas please visit Love-A-Bull's website and sign the anti-BSL petition they will be presenting to the Texas State Legislators. To find this, click the link I provided and scroll down to find the petition, it is near the bottom of the page.
I have already written both Senator Eltife and Representative Hopson and I hope you will do the same.
Also please visit the National Canine Research Council page to view Texas dog bite fatalities from the past 45 years. Quite interesting information. I see a pattern of irresponsible-ness all over that page. Deaths that COULD HAVE been prevented.
Not only do they have those two resources, they also do a weekly online show on Tuesdays at 8 CST. How cool is that?
Now, let's talk about the title of this post. The folks over at the Pit Bull Positive Show want to make a video and they need as many people Pit Bull owners to participate as possible. All you have to do is record a video of your self saying, " I'm ______________ , your occupation, and I am an American Pit Bull Terrier owner. You can have your dog in the video or you don't have to. The goal here is to show the real people who own Pit Bulls. I think this probably the coolest idea I have ever heard of and I am so excited about it. If you want to participate (which you do) you can send your video or questions to Dan at email@example.com.
I found this video posted on the StubbyDog Project's Facebook page. It's about the dogfighting raid of July 2009, one of the largest raids in US history.
This is a heartbreaking story. I can't help but weep for Stallone and the other countless innocent animals that were injured and died in this fighting ring. The most horrible part about this story is not how badly injured Stallone was or the fact that he didn't make it. It's the fact that the dog fighter received only two years in prison. TWO YEARS! It's appalling to me. That is NOT long enough to learn a lesson.
Below is some footage from the actual dogfighting sites.
And one more...
This has got to stop and there is no way it will if the dog fighters are only getting two years in prison. No way.
I apologize in advance. What you are about to read is a rant of built up anger that I have had ever since I have gotten a Pit Bull.
Terribly enough, people associate this:
Because of the terrible thing Michael Vick did, these two will go hand in hand with each other for a long time. For some reason I have found that people like to joke around about MIchael Vick and Pit Bulls. I have kept my mouth shut for awhile but NOT anymore.
When people are playing around with Addie they will get her all hyped up to where she is barking and running around and jumping. With this comes these awful comments. Here is one example: Addie will be jumping around, barking, and what not and then some one will say "Oh, tackle her like Michael Vick would."
That's. Not. Funny.
How about I make a rule that states you can never use the words Michael Vick and my Pit Bull in the same sentence. Thanks.
For some reason people take this whole Michael Vick thing lightly. It is NOT a joke and it's definitely NOT funny.
HE BRUTALLY KILLED PIT BULLS. Not only he did he fight Pit Bulls he shot them, hung them, beat them with shovels, and even electrocuted them. Yeah, that's HILARIOUS. Not.
The next time you want to joke around about Michael Vick I want you to think about the above picture before you open your mouth.
Have a minute? Please call 888-77-JUDGE (58343) and press 2 for NO to the question "Should Neighborhood Associations be allowed to ban "pit bulls". Let's knock this survey out of the park! This poll ends tonight, so vote now and repost!
Hey there Pittie lovers! I have some promoting to do! Please check out the following things! Please? :)
First of all, I got an exciting email from Barbara over at StubbyDog letting me know that their website will be launching this month! YAY! Please and thank you for checking out these great sites! Let them know I sent you!
Yeah, I am sure you already know but I am busy busy with school and neglect this blog all the time now. When I started this blog I was in the middle of summer vacation so I honestly didn't have a whole lot to do. Now I have a lot to do. Thanks for your patience though!
So the black lab my boyfriend Brett found last week turned out to be Lucy! Like I said she was a great dog and Brett was sad to give her back to her owner! Not that I wasn't sad it's just that Addie had to stay cooped up in her cage while Lucy was with us. We went to all the vets and animal shelters in our area and left our phone number so that it could be passed on to the owner if they called. She hung out with me for about 5 hours before her dad came and got her!
Next on my list to chat about is: Addie may be part cat. You see, Brett has a laser pointer on his key chain that he messes with sometimes. Well one night he was shining it on the floor and Addie went berserk! She LOVES to chase it all around the apartment! It's her new form of exercise. She will chase it back and forth for hours! What's your dog's favorite form of exercise?
In other news, my sister just came home and told me she saw a boxer bulldog mix on her way back into the city. She stopped and talked to the guy and asked what kind of dog it was. He explained to her that it was a boxer bulldog mix. Then he said don't worry, she's not a Pit Bull. My sister then explained to him that her sister, that's me, had a Pit Bull. He followed that by saying, "Oh, so you know they aren't mean then." He told her a lot of people are scared of his dog because they think she's a Pit Bull. I know exactly how he feels. More times than not I get people who would rather walk in the street than walk next to us on the sidewalk. I guess they'd rather get hit by a car then attacked by my "vicious" Pit Bull. Lately when I am with Addie and someone is walking our direction, I will move over to the grass have Addie sit and let the person pass. It's so frustrating sometimes. The people she does get to meet like her very much although she can get excited and start jumping and kissing. I love when we run into other Pit Bull lovers because they always adore her! :)
I'm sure you've noticed I changed the look of the blog. I just needed a change! :)
Thanks for reading and check back soon for some new entries!
Well folks, I can tell you my Pit Bull is mad at me right now. This morning I was woken up at 7:35 when my boyfriend found a very cold, hungry black lab outside of our apartment. Addie is not mad because I'm hanging with another dog, she is mad that I won't let her meet her. You see, Addie loves dogs. She doesn't have any dog aggression. She just gets a little too excited and jumps around like a chicken with her head cut off when in the presence of other dogs. Other dogs typically don't like her and I don't blame them. I wouldn't want another human jumping around and licking me all over when we first meet. I have found most dogs to be scared of her. It's something we're still working on. She's still only one year old and has some of those puppy instincts. This lab seems very nice but I don't want to make her uncomfortable while she stays. Unfortunately, she has no tag but has a collar and a choke collar. I'm hoping she is chipped because I will not feel very comfortable just leaving her somewhere when we don't know where she belongs. I'll probably call every 5 hours to see if her family has come to get her.
She is very good dog and did a very good job alerting me when she needed to go to the bathroom. So nice and so cute! I wish I knew her name! If you are a Macomb-area reader and know of anyone missing their black lab, let me know ASAP! :)
It's Pit Bull Awareness Day! :) Unfortunately I didn't get to spend the day with my Pittie but that's okay I will see her later! What is everyone doing for Pit Bull Awareness Day?!
I haven't gotten to do an I'd Like You to Meet in a LONG time. I've been quite busy so I haven't really been asking to do one. I would like to do one soon! It's time to feature a nice Pittie. If you would like to submit your Pit Bull to be featured send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you want to see examples of some I've already done click on the label at the end of this post that says I'd Like You to Meet. Any questions, email me! :) If you do submit your dog they will be seen by many readers across the US and the World so start sending those emails! :) This is a great way to show how good our dogs are!
What a monster... ;)
Before you go, watch this video about the history of Pit Bulls. It's great! :)
For those of you who don't already know, this coming Saturday is Pit Bull Awareness day! This is a great time to get out there and talk about pitties and how great they really are. You can view a little bit about the history of Pit Bull awareness day and the events going on around the nation by clicking here.
Unfortunately my Pit Bull is not with me in Chicago but if she were I think I would station myself with her somewhere on Michigan Avenue with a huge sign saying ASK ME ABOUT MY PIT BULL! Maybe this will happen in future years.
